OB Flat, South Australia — Stud Hereford & Angus
Consistent, early-maturing cattle that thrive under commercial conditions — fertile, quiet, and built for the long term.
Get in touchThe Comley and Cleves families have been breeding commercial Hereford cattle since 1967, adding Angus females to the operation in 2014. Today, Ardno runs a 1,600-cow commercial herd of both Angus and Hereford cows at 'Carlsruhe' in South Australia's south-east, just 10 minutes from Mount Gambier.
The Hereford Stud journey began in 2014 with PTIC females from the South Boorook dispersal. The following year, the family purchased the 78-year-old Ardno stud along with 100 females from the McEachern family in Wingeel, Victoria. Premium females have since been added from Bowmont, Injemira, and Ravensdale. In 2021, Ardno purchased the Australian record-price Hereford bull, Injemira Robert Redford Q287, in conjunction with ABS, Vielun Pastoral and Jarrah Genetics — a sire that has become central to the consistency of the cattle.
The Angus Stud commenced in 2020 with 60 proven Coolana cows. Additional inputs from Stoney Point, Ravenswood, Millah Murrah and Circle 8 in NSW have since built a strong foundation. Sires including Millah Murrah Paratrooper, Baldridge Beast Mode, GB Fireball, Sterling Pacific 904 and Millah Murrah Soldier S101 have driven the programme forward.
Ardno aims to breed consistent, early-maturing, quiet cattle — across both breeds — that will serve clients well for years to come. The entire bull drop is offered for sale each year, with nothing held back.
Ardno's Hereford program is built on elite genetics including Injemira Robert Redford Q287, Injemira Kickstart, King Pin, and Churchill Broadway. All Hereford sires are Poll Gene tested, sire-verified and SNP tested. The focus is on calving ease, curve-bending growth, structural soundness and IMF — cattle that grade well and thrive on grass.
The Ardno Angus herd began with 60 proven Coolana cows and has since grown with inputs from Stoney Point, Ravenswood, Millah Murrah and Circle 8. Extensive AI and ET programmes using Paratrooper, Beast Mode, Fireball, Sterling Pacific 904 and Millah Murrah Soldier S101 have produced a consistent, performance-focused drop year after year.
Alongside our annual bull sale, Ardno offers a selection of PTIC Angus and Hereford heifers and cows — all vendor bred, naturally joined and preg-tested in calf by our farm vet. All heifers are JBAS 6, EU accredited and fully vaccinated. It is exciting to not only showcase the bulls, but offer females that are equally important to any breeding programme.
Lot 3 Ardno Urban U223 — a son of Injemira Robert Redford Q287 — sold for $24,000 to Yarram Park Genetics at the Herefords Australia National Show and Sale in Wodonga. A full brother was offered in the 2025 Annual Sale. U223 topped the ring on account of his exceptional carcase data, including top 5% IMF, and the undeniable presence he carried into the ring.
Selecting for 200, 400 and 600-day weight alongside IMF and carcase EBVs. Cattle that grow efficiently on grass and grade well on the hook.
Every bull crush-inspected by Nationwide AB for soundness, semen and morphology. Feet, legs and mobility are non-negotiable at Ardno.
Quiet cattle are safer and more profitable. All bulls are temperament-scored; females are naturally joined and preg-tested before sale. The entire bull drop is offered — nothing held back.
Whether you're looking for bulls, interested in PTIC females, or want to find out more about Ardno — we'd love to hear from you. Bulls delivered within 300km of Mount Gambier; transport assistance available beyond.
